Director’s Message

At Ecoseva Institute, our work begins from a simple yet urgent recognition: we are living in a time of profound disconnection – from the Earth, from one another, and from the deeper intelligence that sustains life. Having spent over two decades living, traveling, and working alongside communities across the world – from the deserts of West Africa to the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas – I have witnessed both the fragility of our ecosystems and the extraordinary resilience, wisdom, and relational ways of being that still endure within indigenous and place-based cultures. These experiences have shaped not only my research, but my understanding that environmental crises are not solely scientific or technical challenges, they are deeply human, cultural, and spiritual ones. Ecoseva was founded in January 2021 as a response to this realization: to create a space where research, education, storytelling, and lived experience converge to restore a sense of interconnection and responsibility toward the Earth.

Our approach is rooted in the belief that meaningful environmental stewardship must be both globally informed and locally grounded. Through initiatives such as ‘The Third Pole: Because It Might Not Be There,’ we engage in immersive, field-based research that brings forward the voices and lived realities of communities on the frontlines of climate change. In the Himalayas, the “water tower of the world,” we are documenting the rapid loss of glacial ice and its cascading impacts on ecosystems, water security, and cultural continuity for nearly two billion people and countless species downstream. Our work seeks to illuminate the human stories, the knowledge systems, and the enduring relationships with land that are too often overlooked in global climate discourse. Alongside this, we develop workshops, mentorship programs, and collaborative platforms that empower individuals and communities to reconnect with nature, cultivate ecological awareness, and take meaningful action.

At its heart, Ecoseva is guided by the principle of ‘seva’ (in Sanskrit, the yogic principle of selfless service) and a commitment to regeneration rather than extraction. We believe that true impact arises when we listen deeply, collaborate respectfully, act with humility and care, and “move at the speed of trust.” Whether through research, storytelling, education, or partnerships, Ecoseva’s aim is to contribute to a broader shift: from separation to interconnection, from exploitation to stewardship, and from awareness to action. We invite you to join us in this work – through learning, collaboration, or support – as we collectively reimagine our relationship with the Earth and with each other.
